Peace.

There are so many things to love about our new house, but the awesome backyard really tops the list.

Let me tell you, this photo doesn't do justice to the size of the backyard – you're probably only seeing close to half of it. It's huge; probably four times bigger than our old backyard. There's an enormous lawn for the kids to run around on, giant bushes with hollow centers for future fort construction and plenty of hidden areas for little ones to explore.

And there are no houses along the back fence! I can't even begin to explain how happy this makes us. Our last home had houses on all sides, and they were all very close to our house. One side had been host to a number of vicious dogs that constantly barked at my kids, attacked the fence between our houses when we were outside and fought each other with great regularity (I swear to you, it sounded as though they were mauling something!). The house along the back fence wasn't much better. Over the years, there were also late night parties, trash thrown over the fence and other such delights.

Now, when we look out our living room window at the back fence all we see are trees. We can turn the kids loose in the backyard without worrying about them anymore. And we finally feel at peace.

  1. Congratulations on the beautiful new back yard! It looks absolutely fantastic! (and SO green) Lots of space is something we're blessed with and I don't know what I'd do if we suddenly found ourselves surrounded by neighbors (go nuts is my guess) Wonderful that the yard is already established and ready to enjoy :)

    1. Thanks, Robyn! I'm a small town girl at heart, and have felt very boxed in these last few years. Our new place isn't located in a rural area by any stretch, but having such a quiet backyard is the next best thing. You're so lucky to live where you do! Rural living is definitely on my list of "somedays". :)

  2. Wow that yard does look amazing! Imagine having all that space (well you don't have too, but the rest of us do) We have really annoying neighbours too who are always making a racket in their garden....oh for the peace and quiet! =D

    1. I completely understand your annoyance, Cherie. Bad neighbors are the worst! It took us many years to get to this point, but it was worth the wait. You'll get there too I bet! :)

  3. Oh heaven! so happy for you with that glorious yard! we moved to our present house for the yard, we wanted a great yard for Julia. Not loving all the watering and mowing, maybe when she is 11 we'll turn a lot of it into a brick patio but for now, it is so great for her!

    1. We're lucky that our new landlord is super-awesome and has decided to include a gardener in our rent. We've never had one before and let me tell you, it's awesome!

    1. We'd love to have you guys over any time you're passing through, or just want to visit! Hopefully, we'll be able to put together a small gathering later this summer after we get some things put up on the walls. :)
